What now, a great question. Often it can be confusing to know where to go next in our faith journey. We understand questions of faith having experienced them ourselves. So “NEXT STEPS”, is a way to beginning your faith journey as a follower of Christ. No matter where you are in the journey there is a next step for you to go deeper.
It would be great if the Bible had a numbered list of what to do next as you begin to follow Christ. Though there is none, there are practical ways to learn what it means to follow Christ in an ever deepening faith.
The following are some ways:
The FIRST STEP of one’s faith journey must be accepting Jesus Christ as your Savior by acknowledging that you are a sinner. It is believing wholeheartedly that Jesus came as a sin offering for each of us, He died on the cross and rose again to conquer death. In short, we can only come to Christ on His terms and not our
The great news is that Jesus Christ paid the price for our sin and bridged the gap between sinful humankind and a pure, holy and just God. Therefore, there is nothing we can do to ever earn the favor of God except by faith through His Son Jesus Christ. He provided the One and only way to Heaven and that is His Son Jesus Christ. ( Heb. 4:12; 1 Cor. 15: 3,4) Therefore, we trust in what God said about Himself for He created us to be in relationship with Him.
If you have never trusted in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior of your life we encourage you to accept the free gift of salvation. If you are not sure how to do that please let one of us know so that he can share the life-changing love of God . (John 3:1 - 16; Rom. 5:8, 6:23, 10:9-13)
Once we trusts in Christ the bible is clear that our SECOND STEP is the act of love and obedience in baptism. How do we know this is our next step, Jesus himself commanded it. (Mk. 16:15-16) If you have
trusted in Christ for some time or recently it is important to follow Jesus’ example in baptism. (Mk 1:10)
Who should be baptized? All true believers in Christ are to be baptized as soon as possible after receiving new life. (Mt. 28:19) The bible says water baptism is the outward sign of the Spirit baptism that has already
taken place in a believers life. (Rom. 6:3-4, 8:9)
How do we baptize here at Chadron Berean Church? In God’s Word baptisms were full immersions of individuals which symbolizes being buried with Christ and risen to to new life in Him. (Rom. 6:11,Col. 2:11-12) Just a note, baptism is not the washing away of sin, but the public profession of one’s faith in Christ. Jesus statement to the dying thief on the cross, “Today you will be with me in Paradise” demonstrates baptism isn’t necessary to be saved. (Lk 23:43) The amazing truth of dying and rising again in Christ is monumental in the life of a believer. It is a blessing to those who are able to witness it and it may move others to do the
same! So if you haven’t taken this important step let the pastor know.
